FAQ

Common questions.

Is A-quarium truly self-hosted? Does it phone home?
Yes, fully self-hosted. A-quarium does not send telemetry, usage data, or any information to external servers. Licence validation is offline - a signed licence file that works air-gapped. Your data never leaves your infrastructure.
What happens when my licence expires?
A-quarium goes into a grace period read-only mode - your data is safe and accessible, but no new issues or sprints can be created until the licence is renewed. We'll notify you well in advance.
How long does migration take?
It depends on your data volume. A typical 5,000-issue project with attachments migrates in 10–30 minutes. The tool runs incrementally so you can migrate over several days during your cutover window without taking your source system offline.
Can A-quarium replace my service management tool?
Yes - A-quarium's Service Desk covers the core ITSM use cases: customer portal, request types, queues, SLA tracking (Enterprise tier), and email notifications. Advanced ITSM features like change management workflows are on the roadmap.
How does per-user pricing work?
You pay per active user on each paid plan. The Free plan covers up to 10 users at no cost. Annual billing saves 25% over monthly. Nonprofits get A-quarium free, and larger teams can contact us for volume pricing.
What database does A-quarium require?
PostgreSQL 16 or later. That's it. No Elasticsearch, no Redis, no Zookeeper. A-quarium uses pg_tsvector for full-text search and pgvector for semantic search - all inside Postgres.
Is high availability (HA) supported on Core?
HA mode (active-active, 2+ pods behind a load balancer) is an Enterprise feature. Core runs as a single stateless instance which can be restarted in under one second.
What is BA Star and do I need it?
BA Star is a separate AI Business Analyst tool from the same ecosystem. It's optional - A-quarium works perfectly without it. But if your team writes requirements or user stories, BA Star plugs into A-quarium's left menu and automates that entire workflow.
